Here in Hague, we’re all looking forward to curing our cabin fever at the annual Winter Weekend, being held this year February 18-20, with plenty of activities for all ages. It will kick off on Friday evening with the Snow Queen Pageant, starting at 7 pm at the Hague Community Center on Route 8. Come cheer on your favorite queen or princess.
On Saturday, you can fortify yourself for the day’s activities with a hearty breakfast from 7-11 am. It will be held at the Fire Station, located at the intersection of Route 8 and West Hague Road and proceeds will benefit the Hague Volunteer Fire Department. The Fred LaPann Memorial Run will also start from the Fire Station at 9 am. Registration is at 8:45 am.
Next, head over to Rogers Rock campground on Route 9N between Hague and Ticonderoga, where you can try your hand (or should we say feet?) at cross-country skiing or snowshoeing from 10 am – 1 pm and enjoy refreshments to warm yourself up. History buffs will recall that it was near this spot that Captain Robert Rogers used his snowshoes to outwit his pursuers during the French and Indian War. Now let’s see just how fast you are at tracking through the snow!
From 1–5 pm, you can enjoy a variety of activities at Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks, including crafts and kids’ games, sledding, snowshoeing and hiking. Sleds and snowshoes can be borrowed at the front desk. Hot cocoa and coffee will be served at the gym.
After all those outdoor activities, you’ll surely have worked up an appetite. Head back to the Fire Station for the Beste Scholarship Buffet and Awards Ceremony and the silent auction, hosted by the Rotary Club, starting at 6 pm.
The activities continue on Sunday, with snowmobile rides and sledding at the Hague Fish & Game Club on West Hague Road from 10 am – 1 pm. The Polar Bear Plunge will take place at 2 pm at the Trout House Village dock on Route 9N. Those who plan to take the plunge are encouraged to collect pledges in advance, with all proceeds benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network.
If the mere thought of jumping into the lake in February sends cold shivers down your spine, then the chili bake-off is just the thing for you. We hear that some of the entries might be pretty fiery, which is probably why it’s being held at the Fire Station. The fun starts at 3 pm, with chili, hot dogs, salads, beverages, music – and lots of spirited debate about which chili is worthy of the prize money. Sample them all and vote for your favorite.
Don’t miss this chance to get out and enjoy the fresh air and activities in the spectacular setting of Hague, on the shores of Lake George and surrounded by the breathtaking Adirondack mountains. Bring your friends and family, or come on over and make some new friends as Hague heats up for what promises to be a rollicking weekend of winter fun.
For more information about the events, contact the Hague Chamber of Commerce at 543-6441. To enter your chili in the bake-off, you must register in advance by calling Katy Wells at 543-3006 or Carolyn Dunn at 543-6934.
